A Recommendation :)
For those of you that know me, you know that I read many things and usually on two or three books at a time. I have been reading voraciously one book recently that I HAVE to recommend, even if you are not in training. The book is The Four Hour Body by Timothy Ferriss. It is nothing short of amazing. Doy ourself a favor and pick it up. He has it for cheap through Amazon (follow the link above).
The Holiday Recovery
Well I managed to get through the holidays with minimal effect on my weight (only gained 2 pounds) which is an event. I expected to again about 5, and really did not pay much attention to what I was eating. I have been noticing that the further along I get in the training the easier it has been to eat correctly (or at least in the ball park) without much thought or effort on my part. I guess that is progress?
So ... as I type this I am at 253.5 and on the way back down again. The training has been slow and I am not noticing much gain in endurance which is starting to bother me. I have not been OUTSIDE on the bike for three weeks (weather, training partner not available, etc.) but going to try to hit the trail tomorrow and see how the stationary training has effected my overall fitness. Received a great trainer during the holidays and cannot wait to actually use it. Plan is to use it on Saturdays where I cannot get outside and there are no TNT training events. The new year has begun and with it the countdown to the first triathlon.

Progress being Made
With the holidays coming I was concerned that my weight would go back up and my availability to train would go down, but I have tried to stick to it as best as I can and it seems to be working. I weighed in at 252.6 today, which is a total of 2.6 pounds since Monday (two days), and managed a brick workout of Bike/Run/Swim on Monday and a Bike/Run brick last night. May be the last workout of the week though, unless I can squeeze one in on Christmas Eve. 252 is the lowest I have been, so a new PB on the weight lost. Trying to get to 245 by December 31 but may not make it. My overall goal is to average .2 pounds per day and in December I am meeting that, currently at .29 pounds/day.

Weight Tracking
As long as your consistent with how you weigh yourself I don't think it matters when you do it. Personally I weigh after my shower and any "elimination" that is needed
I have found on the days I see my doctor that their scale is always about 3-4 pounds heavier than my scale, but the weight loss is the same (i.e. if I weight 253 at home and it's a pound loss, their scale has me at 256 but also a pound loss). So the weight loss number is correct, if not the total weight matching.
Also, in addition, I have found that its not always the weight that is important, it's the inches. I was bothered back in June because I was losing NO weight for about a month (I was in the 280 range at that time) but my pant size went from 48 to 44. I was gaining muscle and losing fat, but the weight was remaining. Easy to get discouraged if you use just weight as the barometer. Use clothes fit. I am down to a 40 waist now and right at 253 pounds (and the 40's are loose but can't keep buying clothes!) Good problem to have though.

Shrinking Man ....
Ok... it HAS to be the pills ...
I had a great workout last night. My first attempt (a minor one) at a "brick" resulted in biking (machine) for 20 minutes (4.69 miles) and then hopping on the treadmill for another 20 minutes (1.30 miles). Burned just under 1,000 calories in the process, which is great. Also during the run my heart rate got to 174 which is the highest I have ever been able to get it (usually at 145 range I start to have breathing trouble) so my cardio and VO2 must be improving.
Jumped on the scale this morning and went from 255.8 to 253.0. Almost three pounds. I am sure the brick was part of that, but since starting the OxyElite this has been a constant 1-2 pounds per day loss even on days I have not worked out.

The Roller Coaster
As usual with me the weigh fluctuates. I have not worked out as much as normal due to some meetings and stressors happening at the moment, along with my work out partner being out of town. Amazing how quickly my motivation is affected. I really have to learn to deal with that better somehow.
Anyway, by Sunday I had gained a couple of pounds back (257.8) but back down another 1/2 this morning (257.4). I received a book as a gift last week called "Ironman Weight Management" and it talks alot about the weight fluctuations and why it happens. Still doesn't help when I see the needle move up instead of down.
Will force myself to the gym tonight and get a 30-45 minute bike under my belt. Hopefully that will get me moving again.

Fat Burning
About three days ago I gave in to a long temptation and started taking a Thermogenic to see if that would kick start a weight plateau I had hit. For the two weeks prior I was hovering around 260; I would hit 259, then shoot back to 263, and back to 260 ... day after day. So I was given a brand called OxyElite Pro and with a little apprehension took the lowest dosage (1 pill in am on empty stomach and another 8 hours later). The next day (Tuesday) I dropped to 259.4. On Wednesday I was 257.6. This morning I am 256.4. Is it the pills?
